“What oppresses everything?
What is nothing bigger than?
What is the one thing
that has everything under its sway?”
“Name oppresses everything.
Nothing’s bigger than name.
Name is the one thing

-- Vật gì thắng tất cả?
Vật gì không số hơn?
Và có một pháp nào,
Mọi vật đều tùy thuộc?
-- Danh vượt thắng tất cả,
Danh không số nào hơn,
Chính danh là một pháp,
Mọi vật đều tùy thuộc.

62. Mind - Cittasutta

“What leads the world on?
What drags it around?
What is the one thing
that has everything under its sway?”
“The mind leads the world on.
The mind drags it around.
Mind is the one thing
that has everything under its sway.”

Vật gì tự não hại?

“What leads the world on?
What drags it around?

64. Fetter - Saṃyojanasutta

“What fetters the world?
What explores it?
With the giving up of what
is extinguishment spoken of?”
“Delight fetters the world.
Thought explores it.
With the giving up of craving
extinguishment is spoken of.”

IV. Kiết Sử (S.i,39)

-- Vật gì trói buộc đời?
Vật gì dẫn hành đời?
Do đoạn trừ pháp gì,
Mới được gọi Niết-bàn?
-- Chính hỷ trói buộc đời,
Tầm cầu dẫn hành đời,
Do đoạn trừ khát ái,
Mới được gọi Niết-bàn.

65. Imprisonment - Bandhanasutta

“What binds the world?
What explores it?
With the giving up of what
are all bonds severed?”
“Delight binds the world.
Thought explores it.
With the giving up of craving
all bonds are severed.”

V. Triền Phược (S.i,39)

-- Vật gì triền phược đời?
Vật gì dẫn hành đời?
Do đoạn trừ pháp gì,
Mọi triền phược đoạn diệt?
-- Chính hỷ triền phược đời,
Tầm cầu dẫn hành đời,
Do đoạn trừ khát ái,
Mọi triền phược đoạn diệt.

66. Beaten Down - Attahatasutta

“By what is the world beaten down?
By what is it surrounded?
What arrow has laid it low?
With what is it always fuming?”
“The world is beaten down by death.
It’s surrounded by old age.
The dart of craving has laid it low.
It’s always fuming with desire.”

VI. Bị Áp Ðảo (S.i,40)

-- Vật gì áp đảo đời?
Vật gì bao phủ đời?
Tên gì bắn trúng đời?
Bởi gì thường huân tập?
-- Sự chết áp đảo đời,
Già nua bao phủ đời,
Tên ái bắn trúng đời,
Bởi dục, thường huân tập.

67. Trapped - Uḍḍitasutta

“What has trapped the world?
By what is it surrounded?
What has the world fastened shut?
On what is the world grounded?”
“Craving has trapped the world.
It’s surrounded by old age.
Mortality has the world fastened shut.
The world is grounded on suffering.”

VII. Bị Treo Cột (S.i,40)

-- Vật gì treo cột đời?
Vật gì bao phủ đời?
Vật gì đóng kín đời?
Trên gì đời an trú?
-- Khát ái treo cột đời,
Già nua bao phủ đời,
Sự chết đóng kín đời,
Trên khổ, đời an trú.

68. Fastened Shut - Pihitasutta

“What has the world fastened shut?
On what is the world grounded?
What has trapped the world?
By what is it surrounded?”
“Mortality has the world fastened shut.
The world is grounded on suffering.
Craving has trapped the world.
It’s surrounded by old age.”

VIII. Bị Ðóng Kín (S.i,40)

-- Vật gì đóng kín đời?
Trên gì đời an trú?
Vật gì treo cột đời?
Vật gì bao phủ đời?
-- Sự chết đóng kín đời, Trên khổ, đời an trú,
Khát ái treo cột đời,
Già nua bao phủ đời.

69. Desire - Icchāsutta

“What is it that binds the world?
By removing what is it freed?
With the giving up of what
are all bonds severed?”
“Desire is what binds the world.
By the removing of desire it’s freed.
With the giving up of craving,
all bonds are severed.”

IX. Ước Muốn (S.i,40)

-- Vật gì trói buộc đời?
Ðiều phục gì được thoát?
Vật gì được đoạn trừ,
Khiến mọi phược đoạn tận?
-- Ước muốn trói buộc đời,
Ðiều phục dục được thoát,
Ước muốn được đoạn trừ,
Mọi triền phược đoạn tận.

70. The World - Lokasutta

“What has the world arisen in?
What does it get close to?
By grasping what
is the world troubled in what?”
“The world’s arisen in six.
It gets close to six.
By grasping at these six,
the world’s troubled in six.”

X. Ðời (Thế gian) (S.i,41)

-- Trên gì thế gian sanh?
Trên gì được giao tiếp?
Thế gian chấp trước gì?
Trên gì đời khổ não?
-- Trên sáu, thế gian sanh,
Trên sáu, được giao tiếp,
Thế gian chấp trước sáu,
Trên sáu, đời khổ não.
